<p>Eighteen registered political parties have signified their interest to participate in the forthcoming local government elections in Taraba State.</p>, <p>The Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, TSIEC, Philip Duwe,</p>, <p>who disclosed this on Tuesday at a meeting with heads of media organisations in the state, also stated that over 2,222,000 eligible voters would be participating in the exercise.</p>, <p>Duwe said the figure was arrived at based on the assessment of the number of registered voters per Senatorial District.</p>, <p>He added that the TSIEC liaised with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the production of electoral materials needed for the election.</p>, <p>According to him, the Commission held a meeting with representatives of the registered political parties where a suitable date for the election was decided.</p>, <p>The TSIEC chairman further disclosed that the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, would be supervising the political parties on the entire processes.</p>, <p>Duwe, who also announced that the Commission has issued guidelines to the political parties, said TSIEC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with INEC.</p>, <p>He said the MOU is aimed at easing the processes for the conduct of the local government elections, which he said have been slated for 18th November, 2023.</p>, <p>Affirming the Commission’s readiness to conduct a free, fair and credible poll, Duwe said election materials would be made available to the 3,650 polling units spread across the 168 electoral wards of the state as at when due.</p>
