148: Bringing history to life for children - with Jacqueline King

<p>It's fair to say that as presenters of <strong><em>The Hobcast Book Sho</em></strong><em>w </em>we often hark back to our childhood experiences of reading adventure fiction and being inspired by those books to seek adventures of our own. That's certainly the spirit that our guest this week, <a href="https://jacquelineking.co.uk/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Jacqueline King</strong></a>, evokes in her children's book, <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cake-Gestapo-Jacqueline-King/dp/1916204201" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><em>Cake for the Gestapo</em></strong></a><em>. </em>Set in occupied Jersey during the Second World War, Jackie draws on both her own childhood memories of the island from her post-war holiday visits to her grandparents, but also from the many stories she researched from the islanders themselves of living under German occupation and the challenges and privations they faced. </p><p>But wait, we have two interviews this week!
