13 December - St Lucy Syracuse

St Lucy of Syracuse was born in 283 AD in Syracuse, Sicily in Italy. She lived in a time of Christian persecution and was finally killed in 303 AD for her beliefs. when she was forced by the Sicilian governor to renounce her faith, she refused, despite all the torture she had to go through. After she was stabbed to death, Lucy became an even greater witness to Christ's glory. Many miracles were attributed to her, including the time when the people of Sicily were provided with food during the famine of 1582.
