<p>Aminah Chishti Qawwal is a leading force in the art of traditional qawwali tabla. As a student of the great Ustad Dildar Hussain Khan (tabla player for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for 28 years), Aminah has embodied this music through years of study and commitment. She has challenged the cultural confines of women in Pakistan and India not only by performing tabla in an all-male arena, but also by receiving permission to perform at the shrines of Pakistan's greatest Sufi saints, where women haven't traditionally been allowed to play. Aminah represents a new bridge between East and West in a cultural exchange rooted in ancient tradition.
