11.03 - Russia Allows Teaching in Hebrew

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s November 3</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">rd</span><span style= "font-weight: 400;">, and on this day in 1988 the Soviet Union ended its ban on the teaching of Hebrew.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This declaration was not, as it may appear, undertaken as a cultural allowance for the Jewish population in Russia, but as a political move by the Soviets to remove an obstacle in immigration talks with the Americans.</span></p>
