11.01 - Library of Congress opens to the public

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s November 1st and on this day in 1897, the Library of Congress building opened to the public. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Library of Congress Building is now called the Thomas Jefferson Building. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At the time of it’s opening it was the largest library in the world and it remains one of the world's largest (often</span> <em><span style= "font-weight: 400;">the</span></em> <span style= "font-weight: 400;">largest) collections with over 170 million items today. </span></p>
