131: Why Positivity Doesn’t Work

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Welcome back, friends, to another episode of the</span> <em><span style= "font-weight: 400;">She Doesn’t Settle</span></em> <span style= "font-weight: 400;">podcast. This week, I want to talk to you all about setting goals and how you can actually make them a reality.  Too often do people praise the powers of positivity and ignore the obstacles they may encounter on their journey.  That’s why I want to not only distinguish optimism and positivity from one another, but I will also discuss the relevance of the Stockdale Paradox, and how you too can apply its principles to your own dreams and goals. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If we only employ positivity, we deny reality - positivity can be blind after all.  Positivity  tell us that everything is fine, when more often than not, it isn’t. Optimism is less blind and more grounded, in that you can recognize things are tough in the present but be hopeful about the future. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The best approach? Balancing optimism and realism, which allows us to  take the time to understand the situation, the environment, and the actions necessary to move through challenges and/or work towards big scary goals..
