The first instance of âthe devil made me do itâ used as an excuse, was in the Garden of Eden. Eve says, âThe serpent deceived me, and I ateâ (Genesis 3:13). Her excuse did not get her off the hook (verse 16), and it wonât help us much, either!! The devil and his demons cannot control a believer. Using the devil as a scapegoat for our own sinful choices is counterproductive to achieving victory over sin! Beloved, be not deceived! Self-deception is common in our fallen world. Our own hearts are deceitfulâso much so that we easily fool ourselves! A prime example is the thinking we
