Neelakantha's Subodhini: Commentary on Jaimini Sutras

The Subodhini commentary on Jaimini Sutras by Neelakantha has a significant place in Jaimini Jyotisha literature. It is the most popular among all the commentaries spread throughout India and its study is important for understanding how the terse Jaimini Sutras are to be interpreted logically. Along with other commentaries and treatises of Jaimini Jyotisha, a thorough understanding of Neelakantha’s Subodhini is inevitable for a student in order to appreciate the entire system comprehensively.In this English translation of Subodhini, I have provided the original text in Devanagari followed by English translation and extensive notes. The notes include other versions of the Sutras if available and discuss the alternative interpretations made in other commentaries and treatises for the given Sutras. The strengths and weaknesses of the logic provided by Neelakantha are explained. Case studies have also been inserted wherever demonstration of the concepts is required, particularly in the context of various Dasas.
