Description
Most Americans and Europeans have heard about semiconductors as our governments have been investing billions of dollars into the industry over the past five years out of a need for national security. Problems with supply chains and potential disruption to the safety of nations were exposed during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and everyone seemed to miraculously discover that nearly all of the supply chains created under the globalization that we have seen post WWII somehow directly or indirectly go through China. This isn't such a bad thing if one is interested in getting high-quality goods at lower prices, but it exposes an underlying inherent vulnerability of democratic nations throughout the world being highly dependent on the Chinese Communist Party economically. Currently, there is a bottleneck in the production of semiconductors globally with Taiwan being at the forefront of the race. Despite the lack of chips having been yet designed specifically for machine learning, smaller chips at this point just mean less energy use. Moving forward, Taiwan may continue to act as a buffer zone for Chinese aggression in the region, but politically supporting the small island nation may not make sense for most Western nations without the technological advantage provided by 80,000 individuals who work in the chip manufacturing sector within the country. In reality, Taiwan is a microcosm of China from a social, economic, and genetic standpoint, and regardless of the underlying fascism of its origins and the mindset of the citizens there, the insular environment and lack of competitiveness coupled with the general racism and ethnocentrism of Han Chinese worldwide may make supporting the nation a bad choice for Western governments as we grind through the twenty-first century as less production and innovation from the state is highly likely in the future. Historically, China has been non-aggressive and, instead, has chosen to compete economically with all adversaries. It's far more likely that China will surpass the rest of the worl
